We wrote this song after Eli learned a friend of his had Bipolar disorder. This is a straight forward song regarding the end of a relationship, but wrapped within the narrative of this song, is the struggles of mental health and dealing with your inner demons, how it feels to repress and keep something difficult within you for so long before it all lashes out - for better or for worse.
lyrics
I saw you around midday, we ran out of things to say.
Looked me in the eyes and said "I'm fine," but it was all a lie.
Father said to watch for you, mother said what not to do
You don't have the slightest clue, the stupid things I'll do to you.
I'll break your heart up into two, say I love you way too soon.
You'll push me so far away, rearview mirror to yesterday.
So now it's been an empty year, I know you don't want me here.
You're sick of me and all my games, that you'll never be the same.
I'm a shape that never shows its face.
I'm a greyed out cloud in this gloomy place.
I'm a cord around your holy neck, knees buckle as you hit the deck.
I'm suffocating.
These walls are closing in
The water's rising, not sure I'm strong enough to swim.
Can't get out of my head, my demons all want me dead.
Running late, my fate is set,
For my impending time of death.
I'm suffocating, I'm suffocating, I'm suffocating.
